From the Halloween parade and class parties, to signing a steel beam that will be in the structure of our new building, to a learning a dance from Indian dancers in celebration of Diwali, it was a festive week to behold in second grade! The ghosts and goblins were also busy mathematicians learning about frames and arrows, adding domino dots and recording their facts, and working on their turn around math facts. Math games are an excellent way to reinforce concepts taught in our daily math lessons and two favorites include "Guess my Number", and "Target". The children also learned about number stories and made up several of their own and shared them with their classmates. Odd and even numbers a have been taught and the children enjoyed a picture book called "One Odd Day" that went along with the concept of odd numbers in a humorous way.
