Number grids, number scrolls, number lines and calculators were the tools introduced in 2nd grade classrooms this week during math workshop times. Students were learning how to notice patterns and use +10 and -10 strategies as they played games and complete independent work utilizing number grids. Mathematicians also flexed their math muscles as they reviewed open response answers to math questions related to number grid puzzles. Students listened as peers shared strategies they had used to find solutions to given number grid puzzles. Students also reviewed how to play Broken Calculator, a game that challenges them to find several ways to provide number model representations for a given number on a calculator.
