2nd grade mathematicians returned from winter break eager to reunite with classmates and also demonstrated they were ready to get back to work. In math, students are working on activities and learning games that help them apply place value concepts and measuring skills. One Everyday Math game introduced with week was Target! This multi-step game required students to work with a partner(s) to represent 1 and 2 digit numbers using Base-10 manipulatives. Second graders had to utilize "regrouping" to be able to exchange Base-10 manipulatives to add to their totals on their Target game mat. Later in the week students reviewed the book, How Big is a Foot that kicked off whole class discussions and activities regarding "standard" and "non-standard" units of measure.
