Second graders have been learning to slow their pace and be observers of their surroundings and the natural world around them. By paying close attention, gathering data, and documenting what they see, students are constructing and asking questions about the elements that make up different outdoor surroundings. Second graders began these observation times by trekking outside of their classrooms to the front grassy patches and outdoor classroom of the Primary School campus. Over the past two weeks, each class has ventured outdoors with nature journals that they helped put together to observe a wide variety of leaves, small animals, and insects nestled in natural habitats and beneath the dirt. With the guidance of Ms. Glynn, second grade students are developing habits of mind to engage with nature and make observations into their nature journals as scientists do.
