2nd graders have been learning about our MKA Character Standards since the start of school and in recent weeks have reflected on how characters in various story books we have shared demonstrated being confident, honest, fair, responsible, informed, respectful, friendly or temperate. Students participated in read aloud and reading response experiences to extend their understanding of our eight, all school Character Standards. Our focus then shifted slightly to our MKA school seal and the symbols and words represented on it. We reviewed what each of the symbols on our school seal represented and how it lets others know what our school thinks is really important. Students were then challenged to create an individual personal seal for themselves that included three Character Standards they felt were most important to them. Their personal seals would let people know what standards are really important to them. All of our 2nd graders were thoughtful in brainstorming and drawing illustrations that demonstrated what MKA Character Standards looked like in their everyday lives.
Also this week, in an effort to demonstrate responsible, kind and caring support for others, 2nd graders brought in holiday food donations to support our Tri-Campus Food Drive for The Human Needs Food Pantry.
