Second grade writers had much to celebrate this week as they shared their published Realistic Fiction stories with parents and classmates in digital format using Book Creator .epub files. For several weeks, students worked during Writing Workshop to develop their characters and brainstorm realistic problems for their characters to solve. Students also utilized graphic organizers to organize the story elements they wanted to include in their characters' adventures and help them prepare to write their first drafts. The revision, editing and teacher editing process followed, and then students set out to create digital versions of their story using Book Creator on classroom iPads. Students recorded their voices, included photographs of their illustrations, typed their About the Author sections, and customized the formatting of their books. This week, children enjoyed sharing their stories with one another on the big screen in class and listening to the .epub files with their families at home. With a digital publishing process under their belts, students are ready to try their next challenge: researching and publishing a nonfiction book using Wixie, a collaborative process between Library and Writing Workshop. |
