Second grade mathematicians are gearing up for their next round of Math Station activities this coming week. Math Stations provide students a choice of nine different math extensions to work on after they complete math mini-lesson independent work. Math stations help to develop autonomy as students are given opportunities to select independent or partner-based activities. Students are also asked to keep track of the activities they select sing tally marks to help them monitor their math station experiences. In addition to our unit-centered math stations, weekly Optional Math Challenges (OMCs) are extending students critical thinking skills. Students are offered a new problem on Mondays and given the week to consider possible solutions to solve the problem. Friday review sessions are exciting as students eagerly participate in sharing the strategies they used to solve given OMC problems.
