Second graders braved the elements this week and ventured off campus to the Liberty Science Center! We were excited to get an opportunity to use our observing skills in an environment with so much to see and do! Most students took part in a workshop exploring light and how objects and elements manipulate what we see. By learning the difference between reflection and refraction, we began to observe and record how the light changed when we placed different objects in front of it. We saw light travel in unexpected directions and break into a rainbow of colors!
After our workshop, all the students had time to explore the museum a bit. We were able to use our whole bodies to learn about the world that surrounds us. Students tested our senses when we traveled in pitch dark. Without the use of our eyes, we relied on touch and sound to get us to the end of a dark maze. We saw different exotic animals and insects in their habitats, and we even had the opportunity to touch a few outside of their cages! It was fun to learn in another classroom than our own and to climb and explore this wonderful museum!
